News & Announcements

Remind101 for Buses

We hope you all are having a great week and experiencing success with remote learning.  We miss seeing our students in the building and are already planning for their return to school on November 2nd.  While our school buses are not currently running routes due to the school outage, we wanted to provide you with an opportunity to begin receiving transportation updates directly to your personal cell phone when we are able to return to school.

Many of you may recall that SCS previously used the "Where's The Bus" app to track school buses and communicate with families.  When our 5th grade students transitioned to AMS in August and began riding their school buses each day, we were no longer able to use "Where's The Bus".  SCS has now set up a new app for transportation communication with families using Remind101.  We hope you will find some time over the next few days to download the app and subscribe to the appropriate school's bus routes so you can begin receiving communication when school resumes in November.

East Albemarle students in grades K-4 should use the code @9ae886.
East 5th Graders who currently attend AMS should use the code @ah9726g.

Shift to Remote Learning - October 14-30th, 2020

We appreciate your patience as we have been preparing for our upcoming Remote Learning weeks.  As many of you are aware, Stanly County Schools Board of Education members have shifted all students to Remote Learning for the days of October 14th through 30th, 2020.  This decision was made based on recommendations from the Stanly County Health Department and increased cases of COVID-19 in the community.

While we are sad to send students home for this much time, we are also willing to do whatever it takes to promote the health and safety of our young Bullpups and their families.  We have organized parent information and instructional resources and hope the document linked below makes the transition to Remote Learning a little easier for everyone.  Our teachers are still working to add resources to the grade level pages but will have the content added one day prior to the scheduled date of instruction.

At this time, Face-to-Face Learners are scheduled to return to school on November 2nd, 2020.

STEM Donations Needed

We would like to thank the families who have donated items to our STEM Lab! We have received several donations and are very grateful for your support! Mrs. Summerlin has already begun planning fun and engaging lessons that use the donated items.

Our most pressing need right now is a folding table that is lightweight and can be easily taken outside to use for outdoor activities. An alternative to buying a table from the Amazon Wish List, is to provide Lowes gift cards in any amount. There are lots of things Mrs. Summerlin uses throughout the year that can be purchased from Lowes.

Again, we appreciate your support and donations as they allow us to plan meaningful learning opportunities for our students!

Attention Car Riders!

Attention Families of East Students in Grades K-4 -

If you are planning for your child to be an afternoon car rider during the 2020-2021 school year, we ask that you complete the following form to request a personalized car tag. Each family will receive TWO copies of the car tag(s) requested. They will be sent home with your child on the first day of school OR within two school days of your request being placed. Car tags can be requested at any time during the year using this form.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we are unable to gather all of our car riders in the cafeteria each afternoon. As a result, students will be transitioning to the car rider loading area from their homeroom classrooms. To expedite the dismissal process, all parents / guardians should prominently display the car tags on the passenger side of the vehicle (windshield or window) for East staff members to easily read.

Thank you!

School Supplies for 20/21

Regardless of whether your child returns to East in August, or participates in instruction virtually, they will need supplies to be successful! You may view the 2020-2021 East Albemarle Student Supply list by clicking the link below.

Due to social distancing guidelines in response to COVID-19, students will NOT be allowed to share school supplies in the classroom. It is very important that they have their own supplies. If you have questions about any of the items listed, or concerns, you may reach out to Dr. Johnson or Mrs. Wherritt via phone, Dojo, or email.

Uniform Policy Changes for 20-21

We have suspended our uniform policy for the upcoming 2020-21 school year. Please take a moment to read this flyer that highlights what is permitted (per SCS dress code policy) in order for us to maintain a school environment focused on teaching and learning. We hope this decision lessens the financial burden often associated with the start of school. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
